Your predictions specialist has returned, and I am here to let you know how WWE Battleground 2016 will play out! This isn’t going to be too long winded as a lot of the motivations I had for my picks were lost after the draft.
Tag Team Match
Sasha Banks and ??? vs. Charlotte and Dana Brooke
When this match was announced, immediately I thought her mystery partner would be Bayley. That was until the day after the draft, when I got to see the full list of all the wrestlers that were drafted and to where. With all the bigger named NXT superstars making their way to the main roster, and Bayley not being one of them, I don’t think she’ll be the mystery partner anymore.
With the only other face on Raw being Paige and that recently she’s had a pin fall victory against Charlotte, I’m going with her as the mystery partner. Also, with Sasha and Paige being the only face divas currently on Raw, they need the win, even if there isn’t much of a point to this match to begin with.
My pick for the match is Sasha Banks and Paige (or whoever her mystery partner ends up being).
Six-Man Tag Team Match
The New Day vs. The Wyatt Family
So, no matter who wins this match, the feud would appear to be over as these teams are now separated from each other. Also, The Wyatt Family seems to be broken up as well, again, thanks to the draft.
I was talking with a friend while writing this and it ended up turning into this conversation about the tag team division and what would be the point of being a tag team on a show if there isn’t going to be a chance for you to being a tag team champion, leading to the question of, will the tag team championships be defended on both shows? This will need to be cleared up by the WWE and hopefully soon. Whether that means having tag titles for both shows or allowing champions to wrestle on both brands.
Right now, I’m going to stick with the idea that this will be the last match between these two teams.
My pick for this match is The New Day.
United States Championship
Rusev vs. Zack Ryder
I think that both shows need a mid card title. If one champion were to lose, so would the other one.
My pick for this match is Rusev.
The Miz vs. Darren Young
I thought after Darren Young, who won the battle royal by not doing anything, would go on to win matches by accident or in the case of a tag match, through most of the action being taken by his partner. As this appears to not be the case, I think they’re going to “make Darren Young great again” as a continuous story. With that in mind, I think he’ll lose and they can work more toward making him great again.
My pick for this match is The Miz.
Becky Lynch vs. Natalya
Does this match matter? Honestly, I can’t see any benefit to either wrestler winning this match. They could continue to feud, but where does it go? Where does it end? To me, right now, this doesn’t matter.
There has to be a reason they shifted her character.
My pick for this match is Natalya.
Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens
That’s what I think of these two, seemingly like everyone else, considering they made a shirt for them. Flip of a coin, here’s my pick.
My pick for this match is Sami Zayn.
Six-Man Tag Team Match
John Cena, Enzo Amore & Big Cass vs. The Club
Pre-Brand split, my pick for this match was the same as it is now, based solely on those involved and where I can see each team going from here, even if they will be split up regardless of said brand split.
My pick for this match is The Club.
Triple Threat Match
Dean Ambrose vs. Roman Reigns vs. Seth Rollins
I’m looking at this in two ways. Hear me out, I know one of three people can win but hold on. Either the title goes to Raw or stays on SmackDown. I was hoping that all three former members of The Shield would end up on the same show but that obviously isn’t happening. Regardless of who comes out the champ, Rollins and Reigns will continue to feud.
However, if all three guys will remain feuding, Ambrose would have to drop the title to one of them. However, if that happens, you leave SmackDown, already lacking in star power (only really having John Cena) with even less of a reason to tune in to to the show they’re trying to get people to watch. For me, that’s why Ambrose will retain, the fact that you’ll have no reason to tune in to SmackDown if he doesn’t.
My pick for this match is Dean Ambrose.
