Our very own Daniel Mihailescu was in attendance earlier tonight for a panel at the Tribeca Film Festival featuring J.J. Abrams and Chris Rock. There was a Q&A portion during which a little boy asked who Rey’s parents were. For those who don’t know, Rey (shown above) is portrayed by Daisy Ridley in, “Star Wars: Episode VII – The Force Awakens.”
After jokingly telling the boy to get out – twice – J.J. told him he’d tell everyone who Rey’s parents were not, and then proceeded to reveal that they were not in Episode VII. That ruins our theory about Luke being her dad.
What about you guys? What do you think this means?!? Who are Rey’s parents?
After the Q&A, EW.com caught up with J.J. Abrams and he clarified his comments. The director says he was only trying to point out that The Force Awakens builds up the mystery of Rey’s parents without resolving it.
“What I meant was that she doesn’t discover them in Episode VII. Not that they may not already be in her world.”
