Welcome back to The Independent Files, where we at Nerdopotamus will share a match featuring two WWE wrestlers, but not from their time on the big stage. No, these matches will be from their time on the Independent circuit. There used to be a time when indy experience was frowned upon in Vince McMahon’s company, but not anymore!
Nowadays, the indies are essentially the territories, and Triple H is Vinny Mac in the early-mid ’80s, going around, cherry picking the best talent out there. That’s how we ended up with the current WWE landscape. Look at their roster. Seth Rollins? Indy experience. Dean Ambrose? Indy experience. Same goes for Adrian Neville, Sasha Banks, Bayley, Becky Lynch, Daniel Bryan, Finn Balor, Cesaro, Luke Harper, King Barrett, Sheamus, and of course, Kevin Owens and Sami Zayn, as well as a few others.
For this installment, we’re going with KO and Sami Zayn, who were known as Kevin Steen and El Generico, respectively. Back in 2012, to cap off a stellar rivalry, Steen and The Generic Luchador went out and had one of the greatest ladder matches that I have ever seen. It’s called “Ladder War IV,” and you need to do yourself a favor, and press play.
There are no more words necessary. Trust me.
Crazy, right? This match alone has me HYPED to see KO and Sami Zayn continue to feud in the WWE. I’ve been saying it for a while, but they should have a ladder match for the Intercontinental Championship at WrestleMania 32.
If they did that, the current generation would have their own HBK vs. Razor at WM X (a classic match that reestablishes the importance of the IC gold). What do you guys think? As always, hit the comment section, and let us know.
