Professional Wrestling lost a true legend today as former AWA World Heavyweight champion, Nick Bockwinkel, passed away today at 80 years old.
Bockwinkel predates me by several years, but my first experience with him took place at Slamboree ’93 as he wrestled Dory Funk, Jr. to a no contest followed by his stint as their on-air commissioner. Of course, those weren’t the greatest of introductions to Nick in his prime, but I did play out the Slamboree ’94 tape where he was going to award Sting with the world heavyweight championship.
In turn, I eventually familiarized myself with some of his best work in the AWA and All-Japan. Take some time and watch some of these matches listed below and appreciate the intelligence and ability of an all-time great.
