For the past few months, we’ve heard that a number of games will be this year’s “Game of The Year.” Witcher 3? GOTY! Batman: Arkham Knight, despite issues? GOTY! Metal Gear Solid 5? GOTY!
There’s a problem here. This year’s not over, and there are a more potential candidates to release.
Metal Gear Solid 5 may be critically acclaimed, but it hasn’t lent itself to the hands of the day-to-day consumer yet. Let’s face it, the game is probably going to be great, with reports of playthroughs lasting close to two fulls days. That’s a ton of content for a game priced at regular MSRP, and even more if you’re opting for the last-gen version, which is set to be priced at $49.99.
I need to add, online critics are doing a tremendous job at forgiving Konami for what they did to Kojima, the game’s director. If you’re out of the loop, to put it simply, Kojima was released from contract – or fired. Although players everywhere took to forums claiming they weren’t going to support the game upon release, it’s going to be pretty darn hard to not pick it up on September 1st, 2015, with people being reminded MGS5 is a Hideo Kojima game – and allegedly an amazing one at that.
To get carried away for a third time before December strikes, is a silly thing to do however. If the game is great, let it be great, and when the time comes, experienced critics and loyal fans will come together to cast votes. Until then, enjoy the slew of releases from now until then, and don’t forget to pick up a copy of Metal Gear Solid 5, Halo 5, Fallout 4, and everything in between!
